April 8 - Deputy Dan from the Washington County Sheriff's Department will be here to discuss crime prevention.

 

May 13 - Deafnet will be going to the Washington County 911 Center for a tour of the new facility.  **TIME CHANGE** Meet at the Deafnet Office at 6:30 PM so we can travel to the 911 Center.

Tour of U.S. Capitol by Metro Washington Association of the Deaf-Blind.

Metro Washington Association of the Deaf-Blind (MWADB) Recreational, Social, and Culture (RSC) Committee is proud to announce another exciting social event.  It is time to sign up for the U.S. Tour, including the Helen Keller statue, scheduled for Saturday, April 17, 2010.  The tour will begin at 10:00 AM and an interpreter will be provided.  We will meet at the front entrance of Union Station at 9:30 AM.  After the tour, we will have lunch at Uno Chicago Grill which is located in Union Station.  Individuals will pay for lunch on their own and also pay for lunch for their SSP.  Please bring your ID with a picture of you because we will be going through the security system upon arrival at the Capitol.

Time: Meet at 9:30 AM to organize for tour from 10 AM to 12 noon.

Admission: Free for the U.S. Capitol Tour only.

The US Department of Personnel Management and the US Department of Labor is sponsoring a Federal Hiring Expo for the People and Veteran's with disabilities on Monday April 26, 2010.  More information will be available on the Office of Personnel Management's website www.opm.gov after March 8, 2010.  In the meantime, SAVE THE DATE!!!

The IRS is working to make sure important tax information reaches the Deaf community.  The IRS has added ASL Public Service Announcements to it's series entitled, "Tax Tips" with open captions and Voiceovers.  Check back often for new video updates.  You can view the video's at www.youtube.com/user/irsvideoasl.

How to file a Captioning Complaint

You can contact the program distributor directly.  The program distributor is the broadcaster, the cable company, the satellite company or whoever is sending you the television signal.

You can contact the FCC.  The new rules say you can bring your complaint to the attention of the FCC first.

You must send the complaint within 60 days of the captioning problem.  The program distributor will have 30 days to respond after they received the complaint from you or the FCC.

You can file your written complaint with the FCC by using the online complaint form found at esupport.fcc.gov/complaints

We will once again have a team in the Washington County Co-Ed Softball League.
